06/01 -- Congratulations to all the Spartans who competed at the State Finals -- Joy Matthews, A.J. McConnell, Joe Skripka, Mike Snowden, Mike Haskell, Jason Ingersoll, Tyson Mengel, Bryan Wahlfield, and Mike Badgerow. McConnell's 3rd place finish in the 1600 meter run earned him All-State honors, and his time of 4:21.05 is the new school record!

05/21 -- At the JV Conference Meet at Sparta, Miles Thayer was the meet champion in the 400 m. dash in a time of 54.21, earning him the 3rd place spot on the Millenium Milestones.  Kim Rodgers placed 1st in the 1600 m. run with a time of 6:21.96.  Check the Results page to see the many Spartans who placed at the meet.


 
05/20 -- The OK Meet of Champions was held at Wyoming Rogers.  A.J. McConnell was the meet champion in the 1600 m. run with a time of 4:27.   Carrie Debski placed 4th in the 3200 m. run in a time of 12:05.9.  The 3200 m. relay team of Mike Haskell (pictured), Mike Snowden, Joe Skripka, and Tyson Mengel placed 6th with a time of 8:18.40.

05/18 -- At the Regional at Sparta, several Spartans advanced to the State Finals.  Competing at Houseman Field on June 1 will be: Joy Matthews in the 100 m. hurdles; Chris Carrow in the 100 m. dash; A.J. McConnell in the 1600 m. run; the 3200 m. relay team of Joe Skripka, Mike Snowden, Mike Haskell, and McConnell; and the 400 m. relay team of Bryan Wahlfield, Tyson Mengel, Carrow, and Jason Ingersoll.  Setting Millenium Milestones were McConnell, Mike Badgerow, Jason Ingersoll, Kevin Coalter, Carrie Debski, Krista Ingersoll, Heidi Momber, Ashley Johnson, and Amy Sjogren.


05/14 -- Many Spartans peformed well at the very competitive and windy OK-Gold Conference Meet.  Earning All-Conference honors were A.J. McConnell, Bryan Wahlfield, and Amy Sjogren.  Earning Millenium Milestones were McConnell in the 1600 (4:27.8),  Kevin Coalter in the high hurdles (15.73), and Sara Young in the 1600 (5:48).


05/13 -- In the opening night competition of the OK-Gold Conference Meet, Michelle Bluitt and Jason Stark set new Millenium Milestones in the discus.  Stark's 138' 1" places him 2nd on the Millenium Milestones, while Bluitt's 85' 3" earns her the top spot for the girls.


05/06 -- In a home meet the boys defeated Wyoming Park 98 - 39, and the girls won 70 - 67.  A.J. McConnell broke the 4:30 mark in the 1600 meter run with a 4:29.  Bryan Wahlfield broke the 20 foot mark with a 20' ½" mark while winning the long jump.  Tim Stark threw 133' to win the discus.   Carrie Debski improved her Millenium Milestone in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:04.58.  Others setting Millenium Milestones included Sara Young, Ashley Johnson, Michelle Bluitt, Kaleigh Russo, Nick Montgomery, Josh Laitila, and Barry Volkers.


05/04 -- At the Red Hawk Invitational in Cedar Springs, the Sparta boys earned runner-up honors behind Cedar Springs.  A.J. McConnell won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, with a meet record time of 10:01.1 in the 3200.   The girls finished 4th, and Carrie Debski set a meet record in the 3200 meet run with a time of 12:06.7. 


05/02 -- The boys defeated Kenowa Hills by a score of 89 - 44.    The girls won a close meet over Kenowa Hills with a score of 67½ - 65½.  Heidi Momber took over 1st place on the Millenium Milestones in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.05.  For the boys, Chris Carrow bettered his 1st place record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.02.  Check the Millenium Milestones page for all the latest updates.


04/29 -- In a meet at Wayland, the girls won all four relays to spark a 95 - 41 victory over the Wildcats.  For the boys, Joe VanderHyde threw the shot put 50' and is the first Spartan since 1981 to accomplish that feat. The boys lost the meet 91 - 46.


04/25 -- On Thursday at Hudsonville Unity Christian, the boys won 96 1/3 to 37 2/3, while the girls lost a close meet by a score of 71 to 65.   Curtis Meyer earned a place on the Millenium Milestones by placing first in the shot put with a distance of 42' 3¼".  Heidi Momber, who is 2nd in the 100 meter run on the Millenium Milestones,  ran a personal best of 13.38.


04/22 -- In a home meet for the Spartans against Cedar Springs, the girls won a close meet by a score of 70 - 67.  Sara Young, Carrie Debski, and Ashley Greenup swept the 1600 meter run to help lead the girls to victory.   The boys lost despite many excellent performances.  A.J. Mc Connell had 3 first places finishes to lead the Spartans.


04/20 -- The Spartans performed well in Tri-Level competion (boys at Coopersville, girls at Sparta).  Several Millenium Milestones were achieved on a cool, breezy afternoon.  The boys won the grades 11-12 competition, and combined with the runner-up finishes of both 9-10 and 7-8 boys, won the overall championship trophy.  Check the Millenium Milestones page for an update of this year's outstanding performances, and for more information about the Tri-Level meet go to the Results page.


04/15 -- In a meet at Hastings, the boys won by a score of 95 - 37 and the girls came out on top by a score of 81 - 56.  The boys won 14 of the 17 events and the girls won 10.


04/13 -- At the Sparta Co-ed Relays, the Spartans placed third overall behind Rockford and Caledonia.  Placing first for the Spartans was the Sparta Medley relay team of Amy Sjogren, Heidi Momber, Bryan Wahlfield, and Tyson Mengel.   Tying for first with Cedar Springs in the Shuttle Hurdle relay event was the team of Amy Sjogren, Josh Wright, Joy Matthews, and Kevin Coalter. 


04/11 -- In an OK-Gold dual at Caledonia, the Sparta boys lost a close one by the score of 74 - 63.  Ryan Klein had a personal best in the long jump at 20' 1½", earning the top spot on the Millenium Milestones.  The girls were defeated by a score of 100 - 37.


04/09 -- In a home meet against South Christian, the boys won the meet by winning all 4 relays, and by sweeping all the points in 4 other events.   Personal bests were achieved by Dan DeRivera in the 1600 m. run, Chris Carrow in the 100 m. dash, Tyson Mengel in the 200 m. dash and 400 m. run, and Ryan Klein in the long jump. In a loss to a strong South Christian squad, the girls were led by Amy Sjogren's win in the 200 m. dash, and Ashley Greenup's personal best in the 3200 meter run.


04/06 -- Hard work during spring break paid off for the Spartans at the Eagle Relays in Kent City.  There were many excellent performances by the athletes, and both the boys and girls earned first place trophies.


03/28 -- Due to a scoring error at the Comstock Park Quad meet, the Sparta girls were mistakenly awarded 1st place in the meet.  The girls actually tied for 2nd place with Byron Center.


03/27 -- The Spartans competed in their first meet of the season at the Comstock Park Quad.  Both squads placed first in the meet ahead of Kenowa Hills, Byron Center, and host Comstock Park.  First place finishers for the girls were Matthews in the 100 m. hurdles, Sjogren in the 300 m. hurdles, Debski in the 3200 m. run, and Burns in the pole vault.  Placing first for the boys were Carrow in the 100 m. dash, McConnell in the 800 m. and 1600 m. runs, Haskell in the 400 m. dash, Mengel in the 200 m. dash, Badgerow in the high jump, Kimble in the pole vault, VanderHyde in the shot put, Stark in the discus, and Ingersoll in the long jump.  In addition, all four relay teams for the boys placed first.
