2004 Cross Country Team News

11/06 -- State Finals at Michigan International Speedway  --  GREAT JOB, SPARTANS!

Boys:  With a great team effort, the Spartans placed 5th in the State Finals.  Eric Stouten led the team with a time of 16:53.  He was followed by Adam Yost, Nate Kober, Zach Kurek, Aidan Fairman, Brad Dauber and Randy Jacobsen.  Yost, Kober, Kurek, Fairman and Dauber all ran personal best times.  The excellent showing at the State Finals ended a successful season which included the OK White Conference championship and a perfect 7 - 0 record in dual meets.

Girls:  The girls placed 20th in their final meet of the season.  Ashley Bowen's time of 19:32 earned her the 4th spot on Sparta's All-Time Record Board.  Bowen was followed by teammates Katie Yahrmarkt, Becca May, Chelsea Miller, Kaileigh Russo, Dana DeBoer and Justine Todd. 


10/30 -- Regional at Carson City

Boys:  The boys placed 3rd at the regional and qualified for the State Finals.  Eric Stouten earned a medal with his 11th place finish.  Brad Dauber ran a personal best time of 17:44.

Girls:  The girls also placed 3rd and qualified for the State Finals.  Ashley Bowen's 7th place finish earned her a regional medal.  Her time of 20:14 was her fastest time of the season.


10/25 -- OK White Conference Meet at Johnson Park

Boys:  The team ended the OK White conference season by winning the conference meet and earning the conference championship.   Eric Stouten, Adam Yost, Zach Kurek, Nate Kober and Aidan Fairman all passed runners in the last 400 meters of the race to claim the title.  Brad Dauber was the pivotal 6th man who broke a tie between Sparta and East Grand Rapids to secure the conference meet win!  Great job, Spartans!

Girls:  The girls finished the season in a tie for 4th in the conference.  The top 5 finishers were Ashley Bowen, Katie Yahrmarkt, Becca May, Dana DeBoer and Kaileigh Russo.


10/20 -- Sparta vs. Northview at Greenville Country Club

Boys:  The Spartans won the meet by a score of 22-34.  This win gave the team a perfect 7-0 record in the OK White dual season.  Leading the Spartans to victory were Eric Stouten, Zach Kurek, Nate Kober, Adam Yost, Aidan Fairman, Brad Dauber and Randy Jacobsen.

Girls:  The girls defeated Northview by a score of 21-34.  Ashley Bowen, Katie Yahrmarkt, Becca May, Dana DeBoer, Chelsea Miller, Justine Todd and Katie Stouten were the top seven Spartans.  The girls ended the OK White dual season with 3 wins and 4 losses.


10/13 -- Sparta vs. East Grand Rapids at Johnson Park

Boys:  The Spartans defeated East by a score of 23-33.  The top seven runners were Eric Stouten, Zach Kurek, Adam Yost, Nate Kober, Aidan Fairman, Brad Dauber and Randy Jacobsen.  Kober, a freshman, ran a personal best time of 17:35.

Girls:  The girls were defeated 17-42 by an excellent East team.  Ashley Bowen's time of 20:31 was her fastest time of the season.  Completing the top seven for the Spartans were Becca May, Katie Yahrmarkt, Kaileigh Russo, Chelsea Miller, Dana DeBoer and Justine Todd.


10/09 -- Allegan Tigershark Invitational

Boys:  The Spartans placed 2nd behind last year's state champion West Catholic.  Eric Stouten ran a personal best time of 16:42 which puts him in seventh place on the Top Ten Record Board.  Adam Yost had a personal best of 17:20.

Girls:  The girls were meet champions!  Many of the girls had their best performances of the season!


10/06 -- Sparta vs. Unity Christian at Northview

Boys:  The Spartans won by a large margin, scoring 17 points to Unity's 44.  Zach Kurek was the top runner with a time of 17:36.  He was followed by Eric Stouten, Aidan Fairman, Nate Kober, Adam Yost, Randy Jacobsen and Andy Delodder.

Girls:  The girls lost a close meet by a score of 26-29.  The top seven Spartans were Ashley Bowen, Katie Yahrmarkt, Becca May, Chelsea Miller, Kaileigh Russo, Justine Todd and Dana DeBoer.


10/02 -- Carson City Crystal Invitational

Boys:  The Spartans placed 4th in their 26-team division behind 3 state ranked teams and ahead of 3 other state ranked teams.  Five runners earned personal best times:  Eric Stouten, Zach Kurek, Aidan Fairman, Nate Kober and Brad Dauber.  Stouten's time of 16:44 earned him the 7th spot on the All-Time Record Board.  Adam Yost earned 3rd place on the Sophomore Millennium Milestones.  Andy Delodder ran a personal best time of 19:15 in the 9th grade race.

Girls:  The girls placed 11th in their 26-team division.  Many of the girls ran personal best times or their best time for the 2004 season.  Ashley Bowen earned 3rd place on the Sophomore Millennium Milestones.  Personal bests were run by Dana DeBoer, Mary Graham, April Heyt, Teri Quinn and Madeleine Binder.

09/29 -- Sparta vs. Greenville at Lowell

Boys:  The Spartans won by a score of 21 - 40.  The top seven runners were Eric Stouten, Zach Kurek, Adam Yost, Aidan Fairman, Nathan Kober, Brad Dauber and Randy Jacobsen.  J.J. Shangle and Brad Dauber ran personal best times.

Girls:  The girls defeated Greenville 26 - 29.  Placing in the top seven for the Spartans were Ashley Bowen, Katie Yahrmarkt, Becca May, Chelsea Miller, Kaileigh Russo, Justine Todd and Kim Rodgers.   Dana DeBoer ran a personal best time.


09/22 -- Sparta vs. Cedar Springs at Sparta

Boys:  With temperatures in the mid 80's, the Spartans earned a big victory by defeating Cedar 27 - 30.  Eric Stouten led the way for the team, followed by teammates Zach Kurek, Nathan Kober, Adam Yost, Aidan Fairman, Brad Dauber and Ryan Nemecek.

Girls:  The girls lost a heartbreaker to Cedar by one point, 27 - 28.  Ashley Bowen was the team's top finisher, followed by Becca May, Chelsea Miller, Kaileigh Russo, Katie Yahrmarkt, Kim Rodgers and Justine Todd.


09/18 -- Sparta Invitational

Boys:  The Sparta boys earned runner up honors in their division.  Eric Stouten's time of 16:46 earned him the 8th place spot on the Top Ten Record Board and 3rd place on the Top Ten Millennium Milestones.  Stouten was followed by Zach Kurek, Aidan Fairman, Adam Yost, Nathan Kober, Randy Jacobsen and Ryan Nemecek.   Kurek's personal best time of 17:18 earned him the 6th spot on the Millennium Milestones.  Other runners with personal best times were Kober, Jacobsen, Nemecek, Andy Delodder and Ryan Ford.

Girls:  The Spartans placed 7th in their division and were led by Katie Yahrmarkt with a time of 21:18.  She was followed by teammates Chelsea Miller, Becca May, Kaileigh Russo, Kim Rodgers, Justine Todd and Katie Stouten.


09/15 -- Sparta vs. Lowell at Cedar Springs

Boys:  The boys defeated the Red Arrows by a score 24 - 33.  Eric Stouten and Zach Kurek took the first and second place spots in the race.  Also placing in Sparta's top 7 were Aidan Fairman, Randy Jacobsen, Adam Yost, Nate Kober and Ryan Nemecek.  Jacobsen, Kurek and Kober ran personal best times.

Girls:  The girls lost to Lowell by a score of 21 - 38.  The top 7 finishers for the Spartans were Katie Yahrmarkt, Kaileigh Russo, Chelsea Miller, Becca May, Kim Rodgers, Katie Stouten and Shannon Upton.


09/11 -- Hornet Run - Central Montcalm Invitational

Boys:  The Spartans earned many medals at the meet.  Running personal best times were Rob Yahrmarkt, Ryan Nemecek, Ryan Ford, Brad Dauber, Eric Stouten and Nate Kober.  Stouten's time of 16:57 earned him the 3rd place spot on the Millennium Milestones top ten.

Girls:  Medal winners for the girls were Cassie Hill, Ashley Bowen, Katie Yahrmarkt, Chelsea Miller, Becca May, Mary Graham, April Heyt, Kaileigh Russo, Kim Rodgers and Katie Stouten.


09/08 -- Sparta vs. Kenowa Hills at East Grand Rapids

Boys:  The Spartans won by a score of 19 - 40.  Eric Stouten placed first with a personal best time of 17:11.   Completing  Sparta's top seven were Zach Kurek, Adam Yost, Aidan Fairman, Nate Kober, Josh Wolbert and Andy Delodder.

Girls:  Ashley Bowen (21:22) led the Spartans to a 24 - 43 win over the Knights.  She was followed by Katie Yahrmarkt, Chelsea Miller, Becca May, Justine Todd, Katie Stouten and Kim Rodgers.


08/31 -- OK White Grade Level Meet at Sparta

Boys:  Earning medals for the Spartans were Nate Kober, Andy Delodder, Eric Stouten, Adam Yost, Josh Wolbert, Brad Dauber, Aidan Fairman, Zach Kurek and Randy Jacobsen.  Stouten and Yost took the 1st and 2nd place spots in the 10th grade race.  Kober was 2nd in the 9th grade race and Kurek was 2nd in the 12th grade race.

Girls:  Winning medals for the girls were Dana DeBoer  in the 9th grade race, Ashley Bowen and Chelsea Miller in the 10th grade race, and Justine Todd in the 12th grade race.


08/24 -- Orchard View Invitational

Boys:  The Spartans were meet champions, defeating squads from Mona Shores, Grand Haven, Holland Christian, Orchard View and Muskegon.  Leading the way was Eric Stouten who placed 2nd with a time of 17:30.2.  He was followed by Zach Kurek, Adam Yost, Randy Jacobsen, Aidan Fairman, Nate Kober, Brad Dauber, Josh Wolbert, Ryan Nemecek, J.J. Shangle, Andy Delodder, Ryan Ford, Rob Yahrmarkt and Adam Portica.

Girls:  The Sparta girls placed 2nd in the meet behind Grand Haven.  Ashley Bowen was the team's top finisher, placing 3rd with a time of 21:52.2.  She was followed by Katie Yahrmarkt, Becca May, Kaileigh Russo, Chelsea Miller, Kim Rodgers, Katie Stouten, Cassie Hill, Shannon Upton, Teri Quinn, Mary Graham, Amanda Young, Dana Deboer and Kari Miller.


08/02 - 08/07 -- The cross country team had a great time at their annual running camp in Leelanau.  Thirteen girls and ten boys attended the camp with Coach Pfeffer, Coach Smith and Coach Thomas.  Also helping to make the week a great success were Mr. McConnell, Mr. Rodgers, Mr. and Mrs. Delodder, Mrs. Fairman and Joe Skripka.
