6/02 --State Finals at Zeeland

BOYS:  Brandon VanDriel finished a great sophomore season by becoming the Division 2 state champion in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.88.   The 3200 meter relay team of Brad Dauber, Alex Matthews, Eric Stouten and Adam Yost placed 5th and earned All-State honors with a time of 8:01.94, a new OK Blue Conference record.

GIRLS: Lindsey McKnight had a fantastic finish to her track career at Sparta by winning 2 state championships.   McKnight won the high jump in 5'4" and the 400 meter dash in a new school record time of 57.09. In addition, McKnight placed 3rd in the 800 meter run with a school record time of 2:14.06.  Both the 400 and 800 meter times are new OK Blue Conference records. The 3200 meter relay team of Katelyn Cnossen, Rachel Jantz, Katie Yahrmarkt and Magan Antor earned All-State honors with their 4th place finish of 9:45.87.   Antor placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run in a personal best time of 11:17.83. The girls team placed 3rd overall in the meet.


5/26 --MITCA Team Meet

GIRLS: The Spartans had a great team effort and placed second behind Grand Rapids Christian.  The Spartans won 5 events: Lindsey McKnight won the high jump and 400 meter dash; Katelyn Cnossen won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs; and Amber Jacht won the discus.  Andrea Kober placed 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles and set a new school record with a time of 47.63.


5/23 --John Bos Meet at Houseman Field

BOYS: Adam Yost won the 1600 meter run in a personal best time of 4:19.6.  Eric Stouten placed first in the 3200 meter run with a personal best time of 9:36.  Brandon Van Driel won the 100 meter dash and placed third in the 200 meter dash, improving his school record time to 21.9.  Brad Dauber placed 4th in the 800 meter run with a personal best of 2:00.

GIRLS: Lindsey McKnight placed second in the high jump with a jump of 5 '3".


5/21 --Champion of Champions Meet at Rogers

BOYS:  Brandon VanDriel won the 100 meter dash and placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash.  He set a new school record with a time of 22.0 in the 200, breaking the previous school record set by Bob Marohn in 1980.   The 3200 meter relay team (Brad Dauber, Alex Matthews, Eric Stouten and Adam Yost) also placed first in the meet.

GIRLS:  Lindsey McKnight won both the 400 meter dash and high jump.  Other Spartans placing at the meet were Amber Jacht, Lydia Reyburn and Andrea Kober. 


5/18 -- Regional at Cedar Springs (State qualifiers are those who placed in the top 2 in their event or met a qualifying standard.)

BOYS:  The boys placed 3rd in the meet, with many athletes qualifying for the State Finals on June 2.  The 3200 meter relay team of Brad Dauber, Alex Matthews, Eric Stouten and Adam Yost placed first and set a new Millinneum Milestone record.  Their time of 8:04.0 also set a new OK Blue conference record.  Brandon VanDriel won the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.7, and also qualified for State in the 200 meter dash. Others qualifying for the State Finals were: Brad Dauber in the 800 meter run; Adam Yost in the 1600 meter run; Eric Stouten in the 3200 meter run; and the 1600 meter relay team.

GIRLS:  The girls won the meet by 2 1/2 points over Forest Hills Northern.  The 3200 meter relay team of Katelyn Cnossen, Rachel Jantz, Katie Yahrmarkt and Magan Antor placed first and set a new school record with a time of 9:45.7.  Placing 2nd in the meet and setting a new school record in the long jump was Megan Vanderhyde with her jump of 16' 04.5".  Lindsey McKnight placed first in the high jump, 400 meter dash and 800 meter run. She also anchored the 1600 meter relay team that placed second.  Amber Jacht placed first in the discus.   Katelyn Cnossen and Magan Antor finished first and second in the 3200 meter run, both running personal best times.  Also qualifying for the State Finals were the 400 meter relay team, Cnossen in the 1600 meter run and Lydia Reyburn in the pole vault.


5/14 -- Belding Invitational Grades 9 & 10

BOYS:  Medal winners for the Spartans at the Belding Invitational were Cody Chamberlain, Bronson Bond, Matt Behrens, Matt Momber, Matt Phillips, Josh Patterson, Devon Fairman, Justin Lang, Brandon VanDriel, Ed Mazurkiewicz, Nate Dahlgren, Taylor Womack and Pat Fagan.

GIRLS:  The girls had many outstanding performances at the meet.  First place finishers were Katelyn Cnossen in the high jump, 800 meter and 1600 meter runs; Michelle Michel in the shot put; and Chelsea Andrews in the 300 meter low hurdles.


05/10 and 05/11 -- OK Blue Conference Meet Champions!

BOYS:

Friday, 5/11:  The Spartans won the OK Blue Conference Meet by scoring 121 points.  The mighty Spartans roared back from being behind by 37 points to leader Coopersville on Thursday.  Brandon VanDriel won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, as well as anchoring the winning 800 meter relay team (Josh Taylor, David Petrekovich, Luke Vincent and VanDriel.)  Eric Stouten had a strong showing in the 3200 meter run, winning over Cedar Springs standout Tyler Emmorey. Nate Dahlgren and Nate Kober placed 4th and 5th in the 3200. Adam Yost was outstanding in the 1600 meter run, placing second by only one-tenth of a second behind Emmorey. Luke Vincent had a great race in the 400 meter dash, taking 2nd place. The Spartans earned valuable points in the 800 meter run, with Alex Matthews, Eric Stouten, Brad Dauber and Adam Yost placing second through fifth. The 1600 meter relay team (Brad Dauber, Alex Matthews, Luke Vincent and Adam Yost) sealed the meet championship by placing first in the last race of the evening.

Thursday, 5/10:  The 3200 meter relay team of Brad Dauber, Alex Matthews, Eric Stouten and Adam Yost were conference champions with a time of 8:22.76.  Josh Patterson placed 3rd in the pole vault with a vault of 11'4".  In the shot put, Ryan Penland placed 4th and Ed Henry was 6th.  

GIRLS:

Friday, 5/11:  The girls won the OK Blue championship with an impressive 187.75 points over closest competitor Cedar Springs with 94.75.  The girls had many great performances.  Katelyn Cnossen won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.  Lindsey McKnight won the 400 meter dash and anchored the winning 1600 meter relay team which included Rachel Jantz, Sam Pfeffer and Kelly Birkeland. Magan Antor won the 800 meter run, and Andrea Kober was the meet champion in the 300 meter hurdles.  Jenn Konkle placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and Kober was 3rd.

Thursday, 5/10:  Lindsey McKnight won the high jump with a school record and OK Blue Conference record of 5' 7". The 3200 meter relay team of Rachel Jantz, Tara Trimble, Katie Yahrmarkt and Katelyn Cnossen were conference champions in a time of 10:13.06.  Amber Jacht won the discus with 106' 5.25".  Christine Cheslek placed 4th in the discus and Megan Vanderhyde placed 2nd in the long jump. Cnossen placed 4th in the high jump and Hanna Burmeister placed 5th. Michelle Michel placed 6th in the shot put.


05/07 -- Sparta at Cedar Springs

BOYS:  The boys defeated Cedar by a score of 79-58, finishing the OK Blue dual season with a 5-1 record.  Brandon VanDriel had a strong showing by anchoring 2 winning relays and winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  Eric Stouten earned 2nd place on the Millennium Milestones record board with his time of 4:27.9 in the 1600 meter run.

GIRLS:  The girls had another dominating performance, winning over the Redhawks by a score of 99-38 and completing a perfect 6-0 OK Blue dual season.  Andrea Kober was on the winning 400 and 1600 meter relays, placed first in the 300 meter hurdles and was second in the 100 meter hurdles.


05/03 -- Rogers at Sparta

BOYS:  The boys beat Rogers 96-41.   The boys had many excellent performances, including personal bests by Ed Henry in the discus, Ryan Penland in the shot put, and Devon Fairman in the long jump.

GIRLS:  The girls won their meet by a score of 118-19.  Katelyn Cnossen won the 3200 meter run in her first attempt at that distance, running a time of 11:54.  The Sparta girls won every event in the meet.


05/01 -- Belding at Sparta

BOYS:  The boys won by a score of 88-49 over Belding.  Eric Stouten ran a personal best time of 2:01.56 in the 800 meter run, which earned him the third spot on the Millennium Milestones record board.

GIRLS:  The girls outscored Belding 119-18.  Magan Antor ran a personal best time of 11:44.79 in the 3200 meter run, improving her time on the Millennium Milestones record board.  Katelyn Cnossen also made the Millennium Milestones board with her time of 5:31.1 in the 1600 meter run and 5' in the high jump.


04/28 -- Dale Scheerhorn Relays at Godwin Heights

BOYS:  The boys placed 2nd at the meet, finishing only 2 points out of first.  The 6400 meter relay team of Adam Yost, Nate Dahlgren, Brad Dauber and Eric Stouten set a new meet record by over 30 seconds.   Josh Patterson and David Petrokovich placed first in the pole vault relay.

GIRLS:  The girls won their meet, and also had a meet record set by Lindsey McKnight and Katelyn Cnossen in the high jump relay.   Also winning their events for the Spartans were: Amber Jacht and Christina Cheslek in the discus relay; Lydia Reyburn and Amanda Alber in the pole vault relay; Stepanie Hull, Reyburn, Jenn Konkle and McKnight in the 800 meter relay; Cnossen, Sam Pfeffer, Katie Yahrmarkt and Magan Antor in the Distance Medley Relay; Rachel Jantz, Antor, Konkle and McKnight in the Sprint Medley Relay; and Antor, Kelsey Braford, Jantz and McKnight in the 1600 meter relay.


04/24 -- Comstock Park at Sparta

BOYS:  The boys defeated Comstock Park by a score of 87-50.  First place finishers for the Spartans were T.J. Blystone, Alex Matthews, Nate Kober, Eric Stouten, David Petrekovich, Brandon VanDriel, Luke Vincent, Devon Fairman, Zach Priest, Taylor Womack, Cody Stamman and Adam Yost.

GIRLS:  The girls won by a score of 109-28 and won all but 2 events.  First place finishers included Lindsey McKnight, Emily Frederick, Cassie Hill, Casey Trimble, Chelsea McKinley, Jennifer Konkle, Lydia Reyburn, Stephanie Hull, Magan Antor, Kelsey Braford, Andrea Kober, Katelyn Cnossen, Samantha Pfeffer, Rachel Jantz, Christina Cheslek and Amber Jacht.


04/21 -- Catholic Central Cougar Invitational at Houseman Field

BOYS:  The boys placed 3rd out of 15 teams.  Placing first in their events were Alex Matthews in the 800 meter run, Brandon VanDriel in the 200 meter dash, and the 3200 meter relay team of Brad Dauber, Matthews, Eric Stouten and Adam Yost.  VanDriel improved his school record time in the 100 meter dash to 10.6.

GIRLS:  The girls placed 3rd out of 13 teams.  Lindsey McKnight won both the high jump and the 800 meter run.  Her time of 2:18.45 improved her school record by half a second.


04/17 -- Double Dual:  Sparta vs. Wyoming Park and Coopersville at Sparta

BOYS:  The boys defeated Wyoming Park by a score of 92.66 to 44.33 and lost a close one to Coopersville by 74-63.  Brandon VanDriel set a new Millenium Milestone with his 200 meter time of 22.87.  Other first place finishers were Ed Henry, Brad Dauber, Adam Yost, Eric Stouten, Alex Matthews, Devon Fairman, Luke Vincent, David Petrekovich and Josh Patterson.

GIRLS:  The awesome Spartans defeated Wyoming Park by a score of 121-16 and won over Coopersville by 106-31.  Senior Lindsey McKnight continued her record setting performances by setting a new school record in the high jump with a jump of 5' 6.25".  The previous high jump record was set by Cheryl Punches in 1981.


03/27 -- Muskegon Oakridge and Hastings at Sparta - several events were not completed due to lightning in the area.

BOYS:  The boys finished in first place with the events that were able to be completed.  First place finishers included Ed Henry, Caleb Levy, Devon Fairman, Josh Patterson, Brad Dauber, Adam Yost, T.J. Blystone, Alex Matthews, Brandon VanDriel, Cody Stamann, Luke Vincent and David Petrekovich. There were many personal best performances, including Matt Momber in the discus.

GIRLS:  The girls also placed first in the meet.  First place finishers for the Spartans included Tara Trimble, Chelsea Miller, Katie Yahrmarkt, Katelyn Cnossen, Rachel Jantz, Chelsea Porter, Shelby Piper, Amanda Alber, Lydia Reyburn, Stephanie Hull, Amber Jacht and the 400 meter relay team.


03/22 -- Central Michigan University Division I and II Indoor Track Meet

BOYS:  The Spartans had many solid performances at the meet with 6 boys medaling.  Brandon VanDriel won the 60 meter dash against a huge field of runners.  Nate Dahlgren finished 6th in the 1600 meter run.  The 3200 meter relay team of Brad Dauber, Alex Matthews, Adam Yost and Eric Stouten placed 3rd. 

GIRLS:  The girls had many outstanding performances.  Lindsey McKnight won both the high jump and 800 meter run, and Jenn Konkle won the 60 meter high hurdles.  Other medal winners were Katelyn Cnossen, Katie Yahrmarkt and Magan Antor. 


03/17 -- At the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Indoor State Championships, two Spartans competed and medaled.   Senior Lindsay McKnight won the high jump with a 5'6" jump.  Sophomore Brandon VanDriel earned 8th place honors in the 60 meter dash.  Great job, Spartans!


03/12 -- First day of track practice!
