05/31 -- State Finals at Zeeland

BOYS:  The Spartans had a great showing at the state finals, finishing 7th overall. Brandon VanDriel was the 100 meter state champion for the 2nd year in a row, winning with a time of 10.52. The 800 meter and 3200 meter relay teams also earned All-State honors. The 800 meter team of Josh Patterson, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends and VanDriel placed 2nd and set a new school record with a time of 1:30.01. They also set a new OK Blue Conference record. The 3200 meter team of Nate Dahlgren, Nate Kober, T.J. Blystone and Alex Matthews placed 7th in a time of 8:08.68.  The 400 meter relay team of Taylor Womack, M. Arends, N. Arends and VanDriel finished in 9th place and ran a new school record time of 43.97.

GIRLS:  The Sparta girls were represented at the state finals by Megan Vanderhyde in the long jump, Andrea Kober in the 300 meter hurdles, Halley Love and Lydia Reyburn in the pole vault, and the 800 meter relay team of Chelsea Andrews, Stephanie Hull, Chelsea Love and Kober.

05/27 -- John Bos Meet at Houseman Field

BOYS:  The 800 meter relay team of Josh Patterson, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends, and Brandon VanDriel placed first and improved their own school record running a time of 1:30.6. Nate Dahlgren won the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 1:57.1 and earned the top spot on the Millinneum Milestone records. Nick Arends won the 300 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 40.7 and Brandon VanDriel won the 100 meter dash in 10.8.

GIRLS:  Megan Vanderhyde placed third and improved her school record in the long jump to 17' 2.5" . Andrea Kober also placed third and improved her school record, running a personal best in the 300 meter hurdles of 46.6.


05/24 -- MITCA Team State Meet at Jenison

BOYS:  The boys placed 5th at the meet.  Brandon VanDriel won the 100 meter dash in a meet record time of 10.81, and placed 2nd in the 200 meter dash. 

GIRLS:  The girls finished in 6th place (this is a correction from the original results which listed Sparta in 5th place.)  Allison Scheidel won the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:17.21.  Andrea Kober placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles, running a personal best time and improving her school record to 46.77.  Megan Vanderhyde was 2nd in the long jump and Katelyn Cnossen 3rd in the high jump.

05/20 -- Grades 9 & 10 at Belding

BOYS:  The boys placed 4th at the meet.  Cody Chamberlain placed first in both the discus and shot put.  Taylor Womack won the 300 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 43.2.  Eddie Mazurkiewicz placed 2nd in the 800 meter run and Cody DeRuischer was 2nd in the pole vault with 12', earning him the freshman record on the Millennium Milestones.

GIRLS:  The girls finished in 2nd place.  The Spartans were strong in the relays, winning the 400, 800 and 1600 relays. Stephanie Hull won the 200 meter dash and placed second in the 100 meter dash with a personal best of 12.9, earning her the sophomore record and 2nd place overall on the Millennium Milestones.  Katelyn Cnossen won the high jump and Halley Love won the pole vault.  Megan Heimbaugh was 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles.  Allison Scheidel was second in the 1600 meter run with a personal best time of 5:22.5, earning her the 3rd place spot on the Millennium Milestones.  Bailey Ravell was 2nd in the 3200 meter run and Bailey Weidenhamer was 2nd in the long jump.


05/17 -- Regional at Sparta

BOYS:  The boys placed 2nd in the Regional behind Whitehall. The Spartans had a record-setting day, with 100 meter Regional champion Brandon VanDriel having a part in 4 school records.  VanDriel's records included the 100 meter dash in 10.4 and the 200 meter dash in 21.6.  His 10.4 in the 100 meter tied for the best in the All-Area records for all time.  His times also earned him the record in the 200 meter dash and a tie in the 100 meter dash in the OK Blue Conference Records. The Regional Champion 800 meter relay team of Josh Patterson, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends and VanDriel set a new school record of 1:30.9.  The 400 meter relay team of Taylor Womack, M. Arends, N. Arends and VanDriel were also Regional champs and tied the school record with a time of 44.2.  Nick Arends placed 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.1 and qualified to State in both hurdle events. Also qualifying for the State Finals was Nate Kober who placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run with a personal best time of 9:50.9. The 3200 meter relay team of Nate Dahlgren, Eddie Mazurkiewicz, T.J. Blystone and Alex Matthews placed 3rd and also qualified for the State Finals. 

GIRLS:  The girls were runners-up to Forest Hills Northern.  Megan Vanderhyde was the Regional champion in the long jump and improved her school record to 16' 10.5" and qualified for the State Finals.   Andrea Kober improved her school record in the 300 meter hurdles to 47.5, and qualified to State in both hurdle events.  Lydia Reyburn (9' 3") and Halley Love (9') placed 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault and qualified for the State Finals.   Placing 2nd in the meet and also qualifying for State was the 800 meter relay team of Chelsea Andrews, Kober, Stephanie Hull and Chelsea Love.

05/13 -- JV Conference Meet at Sparta

BOYS:  The JV boys placed 2nd in the meet scoring 125 points behind Comstock Park in 1st place with 141.  First place finishers were Cody Deruischer in the pole vault, Cody Chamberlain in both the shot put and discus, Jacob Gilman in the 1600 meter run, and Justin Lang in the 400 meter dash.

GIRLS:  The girls won the meet with 151 points ahead of Cedar Springs with 73.  Taking first place finishes for the girls were the 3200 meter relay team of Casey Trimble, Natalie Klenk, Kaitlan Balderas and Brittany Welch; the 800 meter relay team of Grace Kelly, Courtney VanDriel, Rebecca DeBoer and Emily Hodyna; the 400 meter relay team of Kelly, VanDriel, DeBoer and Brittany George; Trimble in the 1600 meter run; Klenk in the 400 meter dash; Kim Helsel in the 800 meter run; and the 1600 meter relay team (no names provided.)


05/08 and 5/09 -- OK Blue Conference Meet at Cedar Springs - CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

Friday, 5/09:  The boys earned a great victory, scoring 136 points to outdistance 2nd place Forest Hills Eastern's 86 points.   Brandon VanDriel won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and anchored two winning relays.   The Spartans dominated the 800 meter run, with Alex Matthews taking 1st, Nate Dahlgren 2nd, Eddie Mazurkiewicz 3rd and T.J. Blystone 6th.  Dahlgren won the 1600 meter run and Nate Kober won the 3200 meter run.  Nick Arends won the 300 meter hurdles and was 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles.  The Spartans won all relay events.   The 800 meter relay team of Devon Fairman, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends and Brandon VanDriel improved their own school record to 1:31.61.  The 400 meter relay team consisted of Taylor Womack, M. Arends, N. Arends and VanDriel, and on the 1600 meter relay were Dahlgren, Matthews, Aaron Claybaugh and M. Arends.

Thursday, 5/08:  The 3200 meter relay team (Nate Dahlgren, Nate Kober, T.J. Blystone and Alex Matthews) were conference champions, placing first in a time of 8:11.92.

Friday, 5/09:  The girls won the conference meet championship with a total team effort, winning with 135.5 points over closest competitor Forest Hills Eastern who scored 102.5.  Andrea Kober played a big part in the championship, running on two winning relay teams and placing in both hurdle events.  Chelsea Andrews also ran on 2 winning relays and placed 2nd in the 400 meter run.  Joining Andrews and Kober on the first place relay teams were Chelsea Love and Stephanie Hull in the 800 meter relay, and Samantha Pfeffer and Rachel Jantz in the 1600 meter relay.

Thursday, 5/08:  Megan Vanderhyde improved her own school record in the long jump with a jump of 16' 5". Stephanie Hull earned the sophomore record in the 200 meter dash on the Millinneum Milestones with a time of 27.3.

05/05 -- Lakeview JV Invitational at Lakeview

BOYS:  The boys placed 3rd in the meet.  Justin Lang won the 400 meter dash in 55.86.  Cody Chamberlain won the discus (105' 11") and the shot put (40' 8.25".)  Eddie Mazurkiewicz placed 2nd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.65.

GIRLS:  The girls were meet champions and won 12 of the 17 events in the meet.  Andrea Kober won both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles. Other first place finishers were Kelsey Blystone, Allison Scheidel, Chelsea Andrews, Chelsea Love, Bailey Ravell, Bailey Weidenhamer, Halley Love and the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter relay teams.


05/01 -- Sparta at Coopersville

BOYS:  The boys defeated the Broncos by a score of 82-55, completing the OK Blue dual season with a perfect record of 6 wins and no losses.  Nick Arends ran a personal best time of 41.1 in the 300 meter hurdles, earning him the 2nd spot on the Millennium Milestones record board.  Nate Dahlgren ran a personal best time in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:31.8.

GIRLS:  The girls beat Coopersville 94-43 and also finished the OK Blue dual season with a perfect 6-0 record.  In the 200 meter dash Stephanie Hull ran a 27.6 and earned the 3rd spot on the Millennium Milestones record board.  Andrea Kober improved her school record board time in the 300 meter hurdles to 47.6.


04/29 -- Rogers at Sparta

BOYS:  The boys won decisively over Rogers by the score of 109-28.  They were lead by first place finishers Josh Patterson, Matt Behrens, Cody Chamberlain, Ryan Halverson, Matt Johnson, Alex Matthews, Nate Dahlgren, Brandon VanDriel, Devon Fairman, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends, T.J. Blystone, Taylor Womack, Andy DeLodder and Aaron Claybaugh.

GIRLS:  The girls won by a score of 98-39.  Leading the Spartans to victory with first place finishes were Hanna Burmeister, Megan Vanderhyde, Halley Love, Allison Scheidel, Rachel Jantz, Bailey Ravell, Natalie Klenk, Andrea Kober, Chelsea Andrews, Kelsey Blystone, Chelsea Love and Samantha Pfeffer.


04/26 -- Catholic Central Big Cat Invitational at Northview

BOYS:  The boys placed first in the 15 team competition, and the combined score with the girls earned both teams the overall championship.  First place finishers were Brandon VanDriel, Devon Fairman, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends, Nate Dahlgren, Taylor Womack and Alex Matthews.

GIRLS:  The girls placed 2nd in the meet and won the overall championship with the boys.  They were led by first place finishers Halley Love, Andrea Kober, Chelsea Andrews, Stephanie Hull, Chelsea Love, Lydia Reyburn and Kelsey Blystone.

04/24 -- Sparta at Forest Hills Eastern

BOYS:  The boys won by a score of 85-52 and now lead the league with a 4-0 dual record.  The Spartans placed first in 13 of the 17 meet events.

GIRLS:  The girls won 76-61 and also have a league leading 4-0 record.


04/22 -- Cedar Springs at Sparta

BOYS:  The Spartans defeated the Red Hawks by a score of 81-56.  First place finishers were Josh Patterson, Brandon VanDriel, Devon Fairman, Nick Arends, Mitch Arends, Alex Matthews, Nate Kober, T.J. Blystone, Nate Dahlgren and Taylor Womack.  Womack placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and had a personal best time of 43.79.  Eddie Mazurkiewicz placed 3rd in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 2:07.82.

GIRLS:  The girls had another strong showing with an 84-53 victory over Cedar Springs.  Winning events for the team were Megan Vanderhyde, Katelyn Cnossen, Halley Love, Andrea Kober, Stephanie Hull, Allison Scheidel, Bailey Ravell, Samantha Pfeffer, Rachel Jantz and Chelsea Andrews.  Love had a personal best in the pole vault at 10' 3", earning her the 2nd spot on the Millennium Milestones and the Top Freshman spot.

04/19 -- Tri-Level Meet - Boys at Coopersville and Girls at Sparta

BOYS:  In the Bronco Classic at Coopersville, the Grades 11 & 12 boys placed first in the 9-team meet.  The 800 meter relay team of Devon Fairman, Mitch Arends, Nick Arends and Brandon VanDriel placed first and broke the old 29 year school record with a time of 1:32.0.  VanDriel also won the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  Josh Patterson won both the high jump and pole vault.  Nate Dahlgren also placed first in two individual events, winning both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  Nate Kober won the 3200 meter run in a personal best time.  The 400 meter relay team of Matt Behrens, M. Arends, N. Arends and VanDriel also placed first.  In the Grades 9 & 10 competition, the Spartans placed 3rd as a team.  Cody Chamberlain won the discus.

GIRLS:  The Spartans won both the Grades 11 & 12 and Grades 9 & 10 competitions.  First place finishers for the girls in Grades 11 & 12 were Megan Vanderhyde in the long jump and Lydia Reyburn in the pole vault.  In Grades 9 & 10, placing first were Kelsey Blystone in the long jump; Katelyn Cnossen in the high jump; Halley Love in the pole vault; Andrea Kober in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles; Blystone, Chelsea Andrews, Kober and Chelsea Love in the 800 meter relay; Blystone, Brittany George, Megan Heimbaugh and C. Love in the 400 meter relay; and H. Love, Natalie Klenk, Andrews and Kober in the 1600 meter relay.


04/17 -- Sparta at Comstock Park

BOYS:  The Spartans won by a score of 102-35.  First place finishers were Josh Patterson, Matt Johnson, Eddie Mazurkiewicz, Andy Delodder, T.J. Blystone, Nick Arends, Brandon VanDriel, Devon Fairman, Mitch Arends, Nate Kober, Taylor Womack, Nate Dahlgren, Alex Matthews and Aaron Claybaugh.

GIRLS:  The girls defeated Comstock Park by a score of 104-32.  They were led by first place finishers Allison Scheidel, Rachel Jantz, Abby Larva, Katelyn Cnossen, Andrea Kober, Lydia Reyburn, Kelsey Blystone, Dana DeBoer, Chelsea Love, Halley Love, Bailey Ravell, Samantha Pfeffer, Chelsea Andrews and Megan Vanderhyde.


04/02 -- Wyoming Park at Sparta

BOYS:  The Spartans defeated the Vikings by a score of 107-30, and placed first in 15 of the 17 meet events.  Brandon VanDriel won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and Mitch Arends won both hurdle events.

GIRLS:  The girls won their meet by a score of 104-32.  Katelyn Cnossen placed first in the high jump, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, and ran as anchor in the winning 3200 meter relay.


03/20 -- Central Michigan University Indoor Meet

BOYS:  The 3200 meter relay team (Nate Kober, Alex Matthews, TJ Blystone, Nate Dahlgren) placed 1st with a time of 8:42.6.   Brandon VanDriel placed 2nd in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.12.  Nick Arends was 5th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.94.

GIRLS:  Andrea Kober placed first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.94.  Allison Scheidel was 3rd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:44.99.  Megan Vanderhyde was 3rd in the long jump with 15'-6.5".  Michelle Michal was 5th in the shot put at 31'-10.5".   Katelyn Cnossen was 6th in the high jump at 4'-10" and 3rd in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:25.41.   The 1600 meter relay team (Rachel Jantz, Samantha Pfeffer, Andrea Kober, Chelsea Andrews) placed 6th with a time of 4:43.69.
