COOPERSVILLE -- Sparta girls track coach Adam Pfeffer would not want to experience on a
weekly basis what his team went through Thursday night.
But he was happy with the final results.
The Spartans beat their three opponents in an O-K Blue Conference quad that included host
Coopersville, Comstock Park and Belding. The quad was the result of makeup dates and
originally scheduled duals.
"It's hard to keep score with so many meets," said Pfeffer, whose team is 4-0 in
the league. "You just need to fill you lineup out and hope everything works
out."
Sparta beat Belding 112-25, Comstock Park 104-32 and Coopersville 92-45.
Sparta's boys team also ran away from the competition, beating Belding 81-56, Comstock
Park 95-42 and Coopersville 88-49.
In the other meets, Coopersville's girls beat Belding 94-42 and Comstock Park 98-33, and
Coopersville's team beat Belding 71-66 and Comstock Park 90-47.
Sparta's girls had big performances in all three meets.
Katelyn Cnossen won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches and the 1,600 meters
with a time of 5 minutes, 45.36 seconds. Andrea Kober won the 100 hurdles in 17.06 and the
300 hurdles in 48.31, and Kelsey Blystone won the 100 meters in 13.57 and 200 meters in
28.20.
"It's great to go to one place and get three wins," Pfeffer said. "We ran
well today. We have pretty solid numbers on this team, and our depth was key.
"The key meet for us is Tuesday against West Catholic. They come to our house, and
that will be a big meet in the conference."
Nate Dahlgren led Sparta's boys, winning the 800 in 2:06.69, the 1,600 in 4:41.79 and was
a member of the winning 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relay teams.
The three wins were a big lift for the Spartans boys, who lost a 69-68 heartbreaker to
Cedar Springs last week.
"These were our first wins all year, so this was good for our confidence,"
Sparta boys coach Ted Smith said. "The kids ran so well today. It was a total team
effort against all the teams. We had a lot of good performances in a strong wind, and I'm
very happy to get a few wins today."
